It’s the full moon in Cancer, and we’re in a bubble of Solstice energy due to the Winter Solstice yesterday in the northern hemisphere and the Summer Solstice today in the southern hemisphere. The last moon cycle of the year is a powerful time of release, and it’ll likely feel like it over the next week until the New Year.
Be prepared during this waning moon cycle to shed anything that’s been holding you back in 2018. Habits, jobs, relationships, friendships, and more that aren’t serving you are likely to fade – or cause so much frustration that you can’t help but leave them behind. The moon in Cancer places extra emphasis on those things that we relate with “home,” so this may mean specific shifts with regard to serious relationships, living situations, family members, and long-term plans. To top things off, this water sign tends to increase emotional reactions. It’s key to allow yourself to fully feel the emotions before letting them go so that you don’t repress them on any level.
No matter what you step away from, remember that you’re not losing anything – you’re gaining an opportunity to be your best self. You’ll always have the good memories, the lessons learned, and the amazing experiences that you shared with those whom are no longer in your life, but you’ll also be allowing yourself the freedom to expand your life the way it’s meant to be expanded.
Work with fuchsite, pink opal, pink thulite, or rhodochrosite to instill a strong sense of self-worth while removing cords, releasing pain, and transitioning from anything that no longer serves you.
It’s been a powerful year – release and regeneration have been the themes of 2018. In the process, many relationships, ways of being, communication styles, and other ingrained situations and habits have been considered, upended, and ultimately reformed or released entirely.
One consistency in all of this is that those things that have buried deep in our psyches have continued to come up in our lives – the stories, traumas, conditioning, worries, doubts, and secrets that we have tried so hard to push down keep rising for our examination. For those souls who haven’t been working continually to resolve lingering wounds, these issues are likely to have risen in an even more dramatic way, forcing heavy review. And as we prepare to head into Scorpio at the end of October, which rules the house of death and rebirth, those things that haven’t yet been addressed are likely to rise again for clearing.
How to deal? First, it’s remarkably important to address things head-on instead of pushing them down. Those facets of our being that we don’t like to acknowledge or express are collectively known as our “shadow,” and it’s essential with any self-love or spiritual practice to love all of ourselves, even the parts that we don’t normally rave about. The ultimate goal of “shadow work” is to bring those hidden pieces of ourselves into the light so that we can heal them and integrate them fully without shame.
But what if the memories, analysis, and healing get to be too much? Are there ways to alleviate some of the pressure or to cope? Absolutely. First, grounding is essential. Additionally, make sure that you’re getting adequate rest, drinking plenty of water, and eating nutritious foods so that you have the physical support to move past tough emotions and properly detoxify your body of the associated energy.
Next, pull out your crystals! As your shadow rises and forces your attention, work with the following crystals to uncover, illuminate, address, and shift the patterns and other issues that you need to heal. I also recommend carrying a grounding stone like black tourmaline or smoky quartz throughout this healing process.
The first quarter moon in Scorpio has arrived, inspiring us to turn inward and focus on our thoughts, beliefs, and areas of our being that we’d like to transform, awaken, and hone. Never one to shy away from the depths, Scorpio encourages us to take a probing look at our shadow side. Instead of hiding the parts of yourself that you find less than ideal, try this week to appreciate those facets of yourself and recognize the gifts that they’ve given you. Self-care and self-love are about caring for and loving all aspects of ourselves, not just those that appear pretty and shiny on the outside.
What traits do you have that you don’t enjoy? What interests, reactions, or segments of yourself do you shy away from? Do you ultimately push them down or work on them? Do you share these things with others, or do you cover them entirely so that they aren’t visible? We’re often more sensitive than others around us to our perceived “faults,” so you may be surprised if you do discuss these aspects with your loved ones – you may discover that they’ve already noticed and that they love those parts just as much as the rest of you. Growth, transition, and transmutation may be necessary in some areas, but think how much more whole and satisfied you’ll feel once you’ve done the work and are no longer ashamed, self-conscious, or frustrated with any part of yourself.
Tomorrow brings the end of Mercury retrograde, which means that some of the stress and strain involving communication, transportation, and agreements will lessen. Be aware that the shadow period is still active until September 2, so the effects won’t fade entirely for a couple of weeks. With five other planets in retrograde, too, an intense period of personal discovery is bound to continue for awhile. This entire year is all about release, transformation, growth, and manifestation of your highest good, so continue to work with the planetary energies to achieve your overall goals in these areas.
