The moon is waning right now, and generally speaking, the waning moon is always a spectacular time for release. To amplify the energy, we’re currently in the last complete moon cycle of the year, as the moon cycle beginning on December 6, 2018, won’t end until January 4, 2019. This gives us an amazing opportunity to release whatever isn’t serving us so that we begin 2019 with fresh energy, ideas, and attitudes.
If you aren’t sure what you want to release, make a list or talk it out. What consistent patterns have affected your friendships or romantic relationships in negative ways? Is there an emotional state that you’re prone to that causes miscommunication more often than not? Do you tend to be stubborn, jealous, angry, apathetic, timid, anxious, or sad? What can you shift in your life to minimize toxic feelings and create more happiness, love, joy, and abundance? Do you usually keep your thoughts positive, or do you frequently think thoughts that are catty, self-deprecating, or judgmental?
You may want to focus on shedding those physical possessions that aren’t in your best interest to hang onto, also. Clearing clutter from our homes is an amazing way to revamp the energy and allow the space for new developments to take place. Hanging onto clothes that you haven’t worn in 2 years? Donate them to a charity that helps the needy (but do your homework first – some charities like Dress for Success, the Vietnam Veteran’s Association, and the Salvation Army are rated highly, but others are not) or even sell them if you prefer. But get them out of your space. And while you’re at it, go through the rest of your things as well.

Happy Samhain, and welcome to the last quarter moon in Leo! With the sun in regenerative Scorpio, the moon in empowering Leo, and the veil thinner than ever, today is an amazing day to do some shadow work, dig into your patterns and conditioning, and release all that doesn’t serve your highest good. The energy today and the rest of this week is that of focused inspiration, so take out your pads and pens and write down those things that occur to you – these are not your run-of-the-mill thoughts. Any developmental ideas and intentions will serve you well come the waxing moon, when it’s high manifestation time, so save that list once you’ve written it.
If you have any interest in developing your psychic skills, I suggest practicing those today to take advantage of the added Samhain interdimensional connectivity. Would you like to speak with your passed loved ones, work with your guardian angel, or experience ascended master energy? Today is a fantastic chance to do all of the above. You can follow a particular ritual if you’d like, but it’s just as effective to go into such an experience with an open, genuine, and relaxed attitude. Try to minimize any expectations and just sense what comes through. Ask your questions and wait to see, hear, feel, or know the answer.
As always when doing this type of work, make sure to protect your space by declaring ahead of time that you are open only to those energies that are in your highest and best good, and that you invite only those guides of the highest vibrational frequency. This ensures that you won’t connect with any harmful beings.
Work with the following crystals to understand your shadow, shift nonbeneficial patterns, and connect interdimensionally.
- Gold sheen obsidian
- Smoky quartz
The first quarter moon in Scorpio has arrived, inspiring us to turn inward and focus on our thoughts, beliefs, and areas of our being that we’d like to transform, awaken, and hone. Never one to shy away from the depths, Scorpio encourages us to take a probing look at our shadow side. Instead of hiding the parts of yourself that you find less than ideal, try this week to appreciate those facets of yourself and recognize the gifts that they’ve given you. Self-care and self-love are about caring for and loving all aspects of ourselves, not just those that appear pretty and shiny on the outside.
What traits do you have that you don’t enjoy? What interests, reactions, or segments of yourself do you shy away from? Do you ultimately push them down or work on them? Do you share these things with others, or do you cover them entirely so that they aren’t visible? We’re often more sensitive than others around us to our perceived “faults,” so you may be surprised if you do discuss these aspects with your loved ones – you may discover that they’ve already noticed and that they love those parts just as much as the rest of you. Growth, transition, and transmutation may be necessary in some areas, but think how much more whole and satisfied you’ll feel once you’ve done the work and are no longer ashamed, self-conscious, or frustrated with any part of yourself.
Tomorrow brings the end of Mercury retrograde, which means that some of the stress and strain involving communication, transportation, and agreements will lessen. Be aware that the shadow period is still active until September 2, so the effects won’t fade entirely for a couple of weeks. With five other planets in retrograde, too, an intense period of personal discovery is bound to continue for awhile. This entire year is all about release, transformation, growth, and manifestation of your highest good, so continue to work with the planetary energies to achieve your overall goals in these areas.
Work with malachite, Smithsonite, labradorite, rhodochrosite, or rainbow sheen obsidian to access, uncover, analyze, shift, and integrate those shadow parts of your being that you’ve hidden from yourself or from others.
