Some of you who practice Reiki will disagree with what I’m about to say.
The symbols aren’t necessary.
You can send Reiki and other energy healing from a distance without using symbols.
You can direct, amplify, and manipulate energy without using symbols – and with the same or more potency as if you had.
You just need to focus.
If the intention is there, the healing follows. The symbol is a way to direct that intention – so if you’re able to focus and hold the intention on your own, the symbol is superfluous.
This isn’t to say that you can’t use symbols; you may resonate with them and choose to use them. You may prefer the traditional way of doing things. You may find that it is easier for you to focus your energy when you use symbols. You may believe that using the symbols shows respect for the energy.
But you also may find symbols to be stifling and time-consuming. They may be difficult to recall as needed. You may find them distracting as you’re trying to absorb information intuitively. You may be a non-traditionalist.
Whatever the case, do what resonates for you.
Your healing practice is based around you and your methods. However you connect to and channel energy is up to you. You’re the one who decides in the moment what the best methods are. You’re the one who blends and alchemizes different modalities and energies. You’re the one visualizing and designing your client’s transformation, bringing it to life during the session.
So just know that you aren’t limited by symbols if you don’t want to be.
Set clear intentions, focus, and facilitate a beautiful healing experience for your client – whether you decide to use the symbols or not.
