Happy Independence Day to those in the States!
It’s been an interesting year – a year that’s reminded us of our independence in some ways and restricted it in others.
Here in Oregon, I see the parallels, especially in the Portland area, and especially right now.
Regardless of the current events, I’m grateful to be where I am.
I’m grateful to have the freedom to love whom I want to love and to raise my family in the way that I prefer.
I’m grateful to have the opportunity to build my business, to offer the services that I do, and to make an impact on the world.
I’m grateful for the general safety and security that we so often take for granted in this country.
I’m grateful for the ability to develop and practice my own belief system and brand of spirituality, without persecution, and without governmental scrutiny.
I’m grateful that I was born in a place where I have the chance to be me. To be born in a place where persistence and hard work can overcome class, color, and creed.
No place is perfect. No person is perfect. But I believe this country has the drive, will, and dedication to improve where it’s needed; to support its citizens and their rights in the short and long term; and to provide fair and impartial forums for grievances that do occur.
I believe in this country, and I’m grateful to be here.
